Cheryl L2023-11-14I highly recommend the Green Tree Company! Their workmanship was spot on! They were very professional, polite/kind. They are ISA certified arborist. Give them a call if you are looking for someone that knows trees!S Albers2023-11-10James Green and his brothers just finished trimming our much-loved oak trees and I have nothing but praise for them and their work. James is a man of his word: he shows up when he says he will, and does great work for a fair price. In addition, he is very knowledgeable about Texas trees (and snakes too!) and is careful in their trimming. I highly recommend James Green and Green Tree Company.Deanna Knauer2023-10-31Huge selection. Great prices. Easy to reach if you have questions.Cleta Ernst2023-09-13Green Tree Co was recommended to us by our nephew who had glowing reviews of his experience with them. James Green came out and assessed all the oak trees, 5-6 in all, 3 of which are probably >150yrs old. He and his crew are knowledgeable about both the health and asthetics of the trees. They were all super professional and friendly. He gave us an estimate and stuck to it. Lastly, the clean up was impeccable. you’d never know any work was done. We’ve had trees lifted in the past and I can say he is very reasonable. We will be calling on him again when the time comes. 5+⭐️Evan Milliron2023-06-14James is honest and dependable. He and his team removed 12 trees near my house in just a couple days. When they were done they cleaned up the place better than they found it.K. M-Koz2023-06-02Our family has benefited greatly from the expertise & professionalism of James Green & the all the other Green Tree Company employees for many years. Their honesty, integrity, graciousness really make them an absolute pleasure to work with! They thoughtfully consider each tree cutting job and also give great advice on care for trees they sell and that we already have established. They also give great suggestions for trimming. James has a real eye for native Texas trees and has helped me as I continue to build my own foraging skills. We have worked with Green Tree Company for many years and recommend them completely. Some words to describe the company are: Excellence, honesty, trustworthy, punctual, wonderful communication. They are the best of the best!!Deidra Wynne2023-02-18Like so many, I was incredulous and absolutely crestfallen by the sheer volume of massive Live Oak (and my sweet Cedar Elm) limbs having collapsed under unbearable weight of ice in first nights of February 2023. I wouldn’t let my dogs out back for fear of giant dangling limbs. My neighbors found James Green, were thrilled with his (and supporting cast’s) work, and provided me their confidence and his contact info. James assured me he’d get to my work soon, and was true to his word with timely text communication days out, and hours leading up to, the time he had earmarked for me. I’m one to stand out there and watch ya’ll, and I can tell you James moved deftly and professionally up high in these trees with AWE-inspiring series of footholds and lunges, like he was one with them. He is a natural climber, and the safety harness system is an extension of him. I’ve hired crews that did not use harnesses before; not a great feeling. James demonstrates absolute mastery of physics and, while I did not expect to enjoy any aspect of this horrific storm ordeal, watching him climb then take important moments up there to evaluate/problem solve how best to safely and gently cut away and lower enormous entangled crown sections to earth, first securing them with rope, was actually an art form. I had Buick-sized sections wedged, suspended at side yard and had NO clue how they could be removed without hitting roof edge, window, or fence below. No challenge too great for Green Tree! I notice things like the manner with which proprietors speak to persons working for them, and it’s obvious his guys are treated well, respect James, and are comfortable to approach/seek a moment of consultation from him, when necessary, to get things accomplished safely and to his high professional standards. I appreciated the chipper they brought, because we’ve all simply had enough of waiting weeks for the city. MOST importantly, when you choose an accredited arborist that is James Green, you have someone who EXPERTLY, genuinely cares for the long-term viability of these treasured resources. I’m so relieved! Thanks, James & guys!Ric Snook2023-01-01We were wanting to add more trees to our property and move some recently planted ones - James to the rescue! He came out and walked the property with us, listening to what we wanted for a end result. He provided a quote that was quite reasonable and was able to start within a week. The trees look fabulous (that is until the neighborhood cow herd got to a few of the smaller ones) James is very knowledgeable, punctual and helped us immensely with his great advice. We will definitely consider him first for future projects.John Brainard2022-12-10We recently had the opportunity to work with James and his crew on an installation of 50 trees. They were a pleasure to work with! Accommodating, professional, knowledgeable and right on schedule. The trees they planted were high quality and their work was well done. Big thanks to James and his crew. It makes a such a difference in our world to be able to work in easy rhythm with another contractor onsite. We look forward to the next rodeo!Corinne Wier2022-05-02James and his crew are great, I highly recommend them! James is very friendly and knowledgeable, and continues to help me figure out the plants on my property and what to do about them. If you need anything tree related, hire this company!

What are the signs that a tree needs to be removed?
The decision to remove a tree is significant and should be made with careful consideration of various indicators. One of the primary signs that a tree needs to be removed is visible damage to its structure. This can include significant damage to the trunk, such as large cracks, deep splits, or missing bark, which are often indicative of internal decay. If a substantial portion of the trunk is compromised, the tree’s structural integrity is at risk, making it a potential hazard. Additionally, cavities or large holes in the trunk, especially those resulting from tree diseases or infestation by pests, are red flags. These weaknesses can make the tree more susceptible to breaking, particularly during storms or high winds. It’s also important to observe the tree’s lean. While a slight natural lean is not unusual, a sudden or pronounced lean can signal a problem with the tree’s root system or ground conditions. This is especially concerning if the lean is towards a house, power line, or area frequently occupied by people.
Another crucial sign that a tree may need to be removed is the health of its root system. Roots are the foundation of a tree’s stability and health; therefore, any signs of root rot or damage can be a cause for concern. Visible roots that are soft, decayed, or lifted can indicate that the tree is not securely anchored, posing a risk of falling. Furthermore, fungi growth, such as mushrooms, around the base of the tree is a common symptom of root decay. While some fungi are harmless, others can be a sign of serious health issues affecting the roots and lower trunk. In addition, changes in the soil or ground around the tree, such as heaving or sinking, can suggest problems with the root system. These issues are not always visible since a significant portion of the root system is underground, so any external changes should be taken seriously.
The condition of the tree’s canopy is another important factor to consider. A healthy tree typically has a robust and full canopy. Signs of distress include significant leaf loss, dead or hanging branches, or a thinning canopy. These symptoms can indicate a range of problems, from environmental stress and water issues to diseases and pest infestations. It’s especially concerning if these changes occur outside of the normal seasonal patterns for leaf shedding. Additionally, the presence of deadwood – branches that are bare, dry, and snap easily – is a strong indication that the tree is not thriving. Deadwood is not only a sign of poor tree health but also poses a risk as these branches can fall without warning, potentially causing injury or property damage.
Finally, the age and species of the tree play a critical role in determining its removal. Certain species are more prone to disease, pests, and structural problems, and understanding these characteristics can help in assessing the tree’s condition. Moreover, as trees age, they can become more susceptible to environmental stresses, diseases, and decay. An aging tree might show signs of decline more prominently and may not recover as easily from damage or disease. In some cases, proactive removal of an older, declining tree can prevent potential hazards and allow for the planting of a more suitable species. When considering tree removal, it’s important to consult with a professional arborist who can provide a detailed assessment and recommend the best course of action based on the tree’s species, age, and overall health.
In summary, the decision to remove a tree should be based on a combination of factors including structural damage, root health, canopy condition, and the tree’s age and species. Regular monitoring and professional evaluations are key to ensuring the safety and health of trees in any landscape.
What should I do if a tree is damaged in a storm?
When a tree is damaged in a storm, the immediate response is critical for both safety and the potential salvageability of the tree. The first step is to assess the situation from a safe distance. It’s crucial to look for dangerous hanging branches, split trunks, or leaning trees that might fall. One should also check for any downed power lines, as these pose a serious risk and should be reported to the utility company immediately. If the tree is large or the damage is extensive, it’s advisable not to approach it. Instead, cordon off the area to prevent people from getting too close, as storm-damaged trees can be unpredictable and may have hidden fractures or stresses that could lead to sudden movements or further breakage. After ensuring safety and preventing immediate hazards, the next step is to contact a professional arborist. A certified arborist has the training and equipment to safely assess and manage storm-damaged trees. They can determine whether the tree can be saved and what kind of pruning or treatment might be necessary. It’s important to act quickly, as damaged trees can pose ongoing risks and may deteriorate rapidly.
Once a professional is involved, they will conduct a thorough assessment to understand the extent of the damage and the overall health of the tree. They will look for signs of structural weaknesses, such as cracks in the trunk or major limbs, splitting branches, or a compromised root system. They will also evaluate the tree’s species, age, and prior health to determine its ability to recover. In some cases, minor damage can be managed through careful pruning to remove broken branches, which helps the tree heal and prevents decay organisms from entering the wounds. However, if the main trunk is severely damaged or a significant portion of the root system is exposed or damaged, the tree may need to be removed. The arborist will also consider the tree’s location and the potential risk it poses to people, buildings, and other structures. If the tree is near a home, roadway, or other populated area, the risk of keeping a damaged tree might outweigh the benefits.
If the tree is deemed salvageable, the arborist will recommend a course of action. This might include pruning to remove damaged limbs, bracing or cabling to provide structural support, or treatments to address any disease or pests that could weaken the tree further. It’s important to follow these recommendations closely, as improper pruning or delayed treatment can lead to more significant problems in the future. In some cases, it may be recommended to carry out a phased recovery plan, which involves initial emergency care followed by longer-term treatments and monitoring. This approach can help the tree recover more effectively and ensure its health and stability in the long term. It’s also worth considering the benefits of ongoing tree care, such as regular pruning, soil management, and health assessments, to enhance the resilience of trees against future storms.
In the event that the tree cannot be saved and must be removed, it’s essential to have it done professionally and safely. Tree removal, especially of large or storm-damaged trees, can be dangerous and requires specialized equipment and expertise. A professional arborist or tree removal service will have the necessary tools and experience to remove the tree without causing additional damage to the surrounding property. They will also advise on any permits or regulations that might be required for tree removal in your area. After the tree is removed, the arborist can provide guidance on replanting, if desired. They can recommend suitable tree species that are resilient and appropriate for the local climate and soil conditions. This ensures that the replacement tree has the best chance for healthy growth, contributing positively to the landscape and environment.
In conclusion, dealing with a storm-damaged tree involves a careful assessment of the risks, professional evaluation and intervention, and a well-considered plan for recovery or removal. By taking the right steps and seeking expert advice, it’s possible to safely manage storm-damaged trees and maintain a healthy, vibrant landscape.
