Give them a call if you are looking for someone that knows trees!S Albers2023-11-10James Green and his brothers just finished trimming our much-loved oak trees and I have nothing but praise for them and their work. James is a man of his word: he shows up when he says he will, and does great work for a fair price. In addition, he is very knowledgeable about Texas trees (and snakes too!) and is careful in their trimming. I highly recommend James Green and Green Tree Company.Deanna Knauer2023-10-31Huge selection. Great prices. Easy to reach if you have questions.Cleta Ernst2023-09-13Green Tree Co was recommended to us by our nephew who had glowing reviews of his experience with them. James Green came out and assessed all the oak trees, 5-6 in all, 3 of which are probably >150yrs old. He and his crew are knowledgeable about both the health and asthetics of the trees. They were all super professional and friendly. He gave us an estimate and stuck to it. Lastly, the clean up was impeccable. you’d never know any work was done. We’ve had trees lifted in the past and I can say he is very reasonable. We will be calling on him again when the time comes. 5+⭐️Evan Milliron2023-06-14James is honest and dependable. He and his team removed 12 trees near my house in just a couple days. When they were done they cleaned up the place better than they found it.K. M-Koz2023-06-02Our family has benefited greatly from the expertise & professionalism of James Green & the all the other Green Tree Company employees for many years. Their honesty, integrity, graciousness really make them an absolute pleasure to work with! They thoughtfully consider each tree cutting job and also give great advice on care for trees they sell and that we already have established. They also give great suggestions for trimming. James has a real eye for native Texas trees and has helped me as I continue to build my own foraging skills. We have worked with Green Tree Company for many years and recommend them completely. Some words to describe the company are: Excellence, honesty, trustworthy, punctual, wonderful communication. They are the best of the best!!Deidra Wynne2023-02-18Like so many, I was incredulous and absolutely crestfallen by the sheer volume of massive Live Oak (and my sweet Cedar Elm) limbs having collapsed under unbearable weight of ice in first nights of February 2023. I wouldn’t let my dogs out back for fear of giant dangling limbs. My neighbors found James Green, were thrilled with his (and supporting cast’s) work, and provided me their confidence and his contact info. James assured me he’d get to my work soon, and was true to his word with timely text communication days out, and hours leading up to, the time he had earmarked for me. I’m one to stand out there and watch ya’ll, and I can tell you James moved deftly and professionally up high in these trees with AWE-inspiring series of footholds and lunges, like he was one with them. He is a natural climber, and the safety harness system is an extension of him. I’ve hired crews that did not use harnesses before; not a great feeling. James demonstrates absolute mastery of physics and, while I did not expect to enjoy any aspect of this horrific storm ordeal, watching him climb then take important moments up there to evaluate/problem solve how best to safely and gently cut away and lower enormous entangled crown sections to earth, first securing them with rope, was actually an art form. I had Buick-sized sections wedged, suspended at side yard and had NO clue how they could be removed without hitting roof edge, window, or fence below. No challenge too great for Green Tree! I notice things like the manner with which proprietors speak to persons working for them, and it’s obvious his guys are treated well, respect James, and are comfortable to approach/seek a moment of consultation from him, when necessary, to get things accomplished safely and to his high professional standards. I appreciated the chipper they brought, because we’ve all simply had enough of waiting weeks for the city. MOST importantly, when you choose an accredited arborist that is James Green, you have someone who EXPERTLY, genuinely cares for the long-term viability of these treasured resources. I’m so relieved! Thanks, James & guys!Ric Snook2023-01-01We were wanting to add more trees to our property and move some recently planted ones - James to the rescue! He came out and walked the property with us, listening to what we wanted for a end result. He provided a quote that was quite reasonable and was able to start within a week. The trees look fabulous (that is until the neighborhood cow herd got to a few of the smaller ones) James is very knowledgeable, punctual and helped us immensely with his great advice. We will definitely consider him first for future projects.John Brainard2022-12-10We recently had the opportunity to work with James and his crew on an installation of 50 trees. They were a pleasure to work with! Accommodating, professional, knowledgeable and right on schedule. The trees they planted were high quality and their work was well done. Big thanks to James and his crew. It makes a such a difference in our world to be able to work in easy rhythm with another contractor onsite. We look forward to the next rodeo!Corinne Wier2022-05-02James and his crew are great, I highly recommend them! James is very friendly and knowledgeable, and continues to help me figure out the plants on my property and what to do about them. If you need anything tree related, hire this company!

How often should I have my trees pruned or trimmed?
Pruning or trimming trees is an essential aspect of maintaining their health, safety, and aesthetic appeal. However, the frequency of these services can vary significantly depending on several factors including the type of tree, its age, health, and the specific objectives of pruning. For most mature trees, it’s generally recommended to have them pruned every three to five years. This interval is ideal for maintaining their structure, health, and appearance. Mature trees typically require less frequent pruning than younger trees because they have already established a robust structure. Pruning mature trees is more about maintaining that structure, removing dead or diseased branches, and making slight adjustments to the tree’s form.
For young trees, more frequent pruning is often necessary. Generally, young trees should be pruned every two to three years. The goal here is to shape the tree as it grows, establishing a strong and desirable structure that will serve the tree throughout its life. Pruning in the early years of a tree’s life can significantly influence its long-term health, stability, and resistance to adverse weather conditions. These formative pruning sessions are crucial for correcting growth patterns that could lead to structural weaknesses or safety issues in the future. For example, removing competing leaders, crossing branches, or branches that are growing at weak angles can help prevent future problems.
There are also special circumstances where trees may need to be pruned more frequently. For instance, fruit trees often require annual pruning. This not only helps in maintaining a shape conducive to fruit production but also ensures better air circulation and sunlight penetration, which are vital for fruit quality and quantity. Similarly, trees that are located in urban environments or near buildings may need more frequent pruning to manage their size and ensure they don’t pose a risk to structures or power lines. Trees that have been damaged by storms or other events might also need immediate attention to remove broken branches and prevent further damage.
However, it’s crucial to avoid over-pruning a tree, as this can stress the tree and lead to health issues. A common rule of thumb is never to remove more than 25% of a tree’s canopy at one time, as doing so can reduce the tree’s ability to photosynthesize and store energy. It’s also important to consider the timing of pruning. For most trees, the best time to prune is during the dormant season, typically late fall or winter, as this minimizes the risk of pest and disease problems and allows the tree to recover and grow vigorously during the growing season. However, some species may have specific requirements, and pruning during the wrong time of year can be detrimental to their health.
In conclusion, the frequency of tree pruning and trimming largely depends on the type of tree, its age, and specific circumstances. While mature trees may need pruning every three to five years, younger trees often benefit from more frequent attention. Special considerations like the tree’s location, purpose (such as fruit production), and any recent damage also play a role in determining the pruning schedule. Proper timing and techniques are crucial in ensuring the health and longevity of the tree. Consulting with a professional arborist can provide tailored advice for specific trees and situations, ensuring the best care and maintenance.
Do I need a permit to remove a tree on my property?
Determining whether you need a permit to remove a tree on your property can be a more complex issue than it might initially seem, as it largely depends on local regulations and the specific circumstances of your property and the tree in question. In many areas, especially urban and suburban settings, local governments have regulations in place regarding tree removal on private property. These regulations are often driven by a desire to maintain the local environment and ecosystem, control urban heat islands, and preserve the aesthetic appeal of the area. Typically, these rules are more stringent for larger, older, or species of trees that are considered significant or protected due to their rarity, historical importance, or ecological value. Therefore, it’s always advisable to check with your local city or county government, or a local arborist who is familiar with the regulations in your area. They can provide specific guidance on whether a permit is needed for tree removal and guide you through the application process if it is necessary.
The criteria for requiring a permit can vary significantly. In some cases, permits are required based on the tree’s size — typically its diameter measured at breast height (DBH). For instance, many cities require permits to remove trees with a DBH over a certain threshold, say 6 inches or more. Other criteria might include the tree’s species, its location relative to public spaces or utility lines, and its health or status as a hazard. For example, dead trees or those posing an immediate risk to people or structures might be exempt from permit requirements, or the process might be expedited. It’s also common for local regulations to differentiate between tree species, with certain types of trees being more protected due to their rarity, native status, or ecological importance. In contrast, invasive species might be easier to remove without a permit.
Another important aspect to consider is whether you live in a community governed by a homeowners’ association (HOA) or similar entity. HOAs often have their own set of rules and guidelines regarding landscaping and tree removal, which can be more restrictive than local government regulations. Even if your city or county does not require a permit for tree removal, your HOA might have its own approval process. Violating these guidelines can result in fines or other penalties, so it’s crucial to check with your HOA before proceeding with tree removal.
Finally, it’s worth noting that even if a permit is not required, tree removal can be a complex and potentially dangerous task, especially for larger trees or those located near structures or power lines. It’s generally advisable to hire a professional tree removal service that is licensed and insured. These professionals can not only safely remove the tree but also advise on whether a permit is necessary and assist with the application process if it is. They are often familiar with the local regulations and can ensure that the removal is carried out legally and safely, avoiding potential fines or damage to property.
In summary, whether you need a permit to remove a tree on your property depends on local regulations, the characteristics of the tree, and potentially the rules of a homeowners’ association. Checking with local authorities or consulting with a professional arborist is the best course of action to ensure compliance with any applicable rules. Remember, even if a permit is not required, it’s crucial to consider the safety and expertise necessary for tree removal and to engage professional services as needed.
